Her commitments to re-engineering the conventional patent system which is very inefficient resulting in low quality patents that are unenforceable or challenged by competitors in costly litigation lawsuits. As a result, many people incorrectly conclude that intellectual property (IP), particularly patents, silence innovation. It is my goal to help people understand that IP creation should never be left to patent attorneys exclusively but must be aligned with marketing, business, and patent intelligence. In this way, IP will drive innovation in corporations and universities, in artists’ studios and farmers’ fields, around the world. When IP is properly managed, it drives innovation and creativity across the globe in the form of new medicines, foods, materials, and information technology.

Profile:
Globally focused patent and biotechnology leader with 30+ years in multinational biopharmaceutical, bioagricultural, and bioprocess control corporations. Highly accomplished at evaluating disclosures for novelty, validity of content, quality of research, and timeliness consistent with achieving company’s strategic goals. Include systems biology, mathematical modeling, computational biology, statistics, machine learning, bioinformatics, cancer research, metabolomics, circadian rhythm.

Profile:
Dr. Zhen Qi is a research engineer in the department of biomedical engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. In the post-genome era, high-throughput instruments and methods are more and more used and have caused data explosion. Therefore, one big challenge in systems biology is how to extract useful information from high-throughput data, e.g., genomics, microarray, and metabolomics data. He has developed computational biology and statistical methods to infer biochemical mechanisms underlying human diseases from metabolomics data. He has also put efforts on development of mathematical models for biomedical systems as well as their analyses and applications. One example is multiple neurotransmitter systems in human brain. These models have served as in silico platforms for study of genetic mutations, drug interventions, and environmental exposure in the context of Parkinson’s, schizophrenia, and drug addiction. His research is among pioneering explorations of applying systems biology approaches to neurological disease research.

Parasitic infections are more in tropical countries and cause global health problem especially in developing countries, Advanced diagnostics, tests, vaccines, therapeutics and development of new drugs are needed. Viviparity is common amongest mammals but not many provide long gestation period, To study long term parasitic toxic effects, it is essential to use long gestation period laboratory animal models. Rats have 21 days, rabbits 30,dog 60 days of gestation period, The subtle effects of Thalidomide tragedy resulting in phocomalia, apoda etc in the offspring lead to untold miseries, Similarly good number of cases of fetal deaths, still births, teratogenices etc. Dr.Rao used scorpion as model in estimation of heavy metals like mercury and lead in embryonic development of scorpion and noticed similar effects, Indeed great challenges, given that most drugs in pipe line failed in clinical trails. Because most of the drugs tested on low gestation period animals, A new thought in the drug design for parasitic diseases by using scorpion as a model. India View Profile

Research Interest:
One of his early research accomplishment was that of his pioneering work that demonstrated a role for alcohol-induced elevation of endogenously formed cannabinoid (CB)-like compounds (endocannabinoids, ECs) and CB1 receptors in alcohol tolerance and dependence. Ever since he have been continuously funded to continue his research on the role of EC signaling mechanisms both by private and federal sources. He have had several funded projects throughout that included both domestic and foreign collaborations. He have published over 100 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals. His work has been cited widely in the field and enhanced further developments in the field. He is most thankful to the resources and the environment the Institute/University provided him to be a successful researcher. He feel proud to represent the Institute/University any which way He can.

Profile:
Basalingappa L. Hungund is basically trained as a Bio-organic chemist and awarded a Ph.D in this discipline from Poona University, India in 1969. He was recruited as a Post-Doctoral Fellow by Stevens Institute of Technology, and worked on elucidating metabolic pathways for sesquiterpenes from 1969 through 1972. Then he proceeded to Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology and worked on cholesterol biosynthetic pathways until 1974. Then he joined the group at Neuroscience Department, NYS Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) that was headed by now deceased Dr. Maurice Rappor the one who discovered serotonin, where he got his training lipid biochemistry as it relates to neurochemical abnormalities of various brain disorders until 1975. From there he moved on to now defunct Long Island Research Institute (LIRI), where he worked on developing his own research program to study the neurobiological mechanisms underlying alcohol abuse-related disorders (ABRD) as it relates to brain lipids. He was given an opportunity to get trained for developing animal models to study ARBD. I spent a year of sabbatical in the laboratory of Dr. Dora Goldstein at Stanford University, who was a pioneer in the development of inhalation mouse model at the time. She was also the first researcher to demonstrate a role for membrane lipids in ARBD. After nine years at LIRI, he returned to NYSPI and continued pursuing of my research interests in ARBD neurobiological mechanisms.
