Dr. Gemma Aiello was born in Aversa (CE), Italy on 24 October 1964. In 1989 she graduated in Geological Sciences at the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 1993 she earned a PhD in Sedimentary Geology at the University of Naples “Federico II”, Department of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Geological Sciences. She completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Naples “Federico II”, a CNR-CEE fellowship and several contracts at the Research Institute “Geomare Sud”, CNR, Naples, Italy. Since 1998 she has been a full time researcher at the Italian CNR. Chehab F.H. Hosny graduated from Alexandria University (Egypt) with a BSc in Oceanography in 1977. He acted as teaching assistant while pursuing his studies and research until he received an MSc in Biological Oceanography in Taxonomy and Biology of sharks of the SE Mediterranean in 1981. In order to obtain advanced knowledge he studies for the fall semester of 1983 at the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at Texas A&M University, USA. He obtained his PhD in 1987 from Alexandria University in Fish Population Dynamics. He was tenured as lecturer from 1987 to 2000 at the Oceanography Department. In 1991, he operated a mesocosm facility at Texas Christian University (TCU) running experiment on the biological manipulation of drinking water reservoir of Dallas Ft Worth city. In 1998, he started a 5years research study on the environmental factors affecting fish stock in the Arabian Gulf off Saudi Arabia. He has substantial experience in implementing research and development projects on fish and invertebrates biology, coral reefs biodiversity, coastal resources management, environmental impact assessment, biological manipulation of water quality of agricultural drainage system with funding support from the British Council, the USAID, the British Overseas Development Administration (ODA), the US Peace Fellowship, King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR) at King Faisal University (KFU). In 1993, he joined KFU as assistant professor teaching eight undergraduate and four graduate courses at the department of animal and fish production until 2010. He is a senior researcher at the Fish Resources Research Center (FRRC) at King Faisal University (KFU), Saudi Arabia since 2010.

Alexis J Conides worked initially as external consultant/contractor for the Aquaculture Centre of Acheloos S.A. and then the Institute of Marine Biological Resources of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (former National Centre for Marine Research). In 2004, he was appointed for the permanent position of researcher for the Institute of Marine Biological Resources of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, a position which he retains until today. As external consultant/contractor for the ACEA SA Government company and the Institute of Marine Biological Resources of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, he has provided services as a fish biologist in aquaculture of marine shrimps and fish based on my expertise (PhD on aquaculture physiology). In particular, his services focused on: • reproduction of marine species under controlled conditions • egg management and hatching • larvae feeding and management • collection of wild fry for use in aquaculture/condition of wild fry • management and feeding of broodstock, broodstock maintenance • environmental interaction of aquaculture At the same time Dr.Conides served as external consultant for the Institute of Inland Waters for research projects and the elaboration of publications. In particular, his services focused on: • fish biology of inland waters (freshwater species) • fisheries exploitation of inland water bodies • environmental studies of inland water bodies • statistical analysis of research results As researcher for the Institute of Marine Biological Resources of the National Centre for Marine Research (1994-2003), he continued his work for the Department of Aquaculture with the above subjects. Following the merger of the National Centre for Marine Research and the Institute for Marine Biology of Crete, to form the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (2003-today), he remained in the independent Institute of Marine Biological Resources since the Department of Aquaculture was upgraded to the Institute of Aquaculture. During this period he has provided services on fisheries biology and population dynamics of marine species in accordance with his expertise (PhD in fisheries biology and population dynamics as well as 2 University specialization degrees). His work in the Institute of Marine Biological Resources focuses on: • fisheries biology of coastal species • population dynamics of coastal populations • Integrated Coastal Zone Management In 2007, and in accordance to the decision of the Board of Directors and the Director of the Institute of Marine Biological Resources, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Marine Biological Resources. His work experience is characterized by the following activities: HCMR responsible for the Descriptor 11 (refers to energy, including underwater noise) of Good Environmental Status related to Marine Strategy Framework Directive; mathematical modelling of acoustic field in ocean waveguides and software development for problems of three-dimensional acoustic wave propagation and scattering in the ocean environment; implementation of numerical wave models for open sea / coastal areas and for sediment transport in the coastal zone; statistical analysis of wave data; software development for automated qualitative and quantitative analysis of radioactivity spectra in the marine environment. He has more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and conferences with more than 140 citations (Google Scholar). Dr. El Gamal has served as an active member of the Research Council for Fishery Resources of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research & Technology. Dr. El Gamal supervised several master and doctoral programs in the area of aquaculture and has served as an external examiner for several graduate programs at national or international levels. In the area of scientific publication, Dr. El Gamal continues to referee manuscripts for key international scientific journals. Dr. El Gamal has also given several lectures on fish breeding and genetics in Azhar University (Egypt). She has eleven years of experience in marine environmental sciences, especially marine pollution and marine biotechnology and fourteen years of experience in invertebrate aquaculture especially bivalve aquaculture. She has earned her M.Sc. in Chemical Oceanography from Alexandria University, Egypt and completed her Ph.D. studies in bivalve culture and molecular biology from Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, USA in 2008. Post-doctoral studies involved evaluation of bivalves in Egyptian fisheries and stress-related biomarkers of disease resistance. She introduced bivalve aquaculture in Egypt in 2009 and initiated and managed bivalve aquaculture research program at NIOF when she secured fund and acted as a principal investigator of a joint Egypt-US project funded by STDF, Egypt and USDA, USA and other national projects. She has participated as PI, team leader in 8 international and national projects, all dealing with invertebrate ecology, biodiversity, biotechnology and aquaculture (bivalves, sponges and sea cucumber). She was contracted as National Consultant by FAO organization in a FAO- EastMed-GAFRD project, 2013-2014. She is an editor in World Life Sciences (WLS)-Global Technology Press. She has completed project management professionals courses (PMP) and preparing to be PMP certified.

Ibrahim Aboyadak, born in august 1978 in Egypt, completed his Bachelor of veterinary medicine science (B.V.Sc.), from Tanta University, Egypt in 2001, earned a Diploma in animal microbiology from Mansura University in 2009 and a master degree in veterinary medicine science(Veterinary Pharmacology - Fish Pharmacology), from Kafrelsheikh University, Egypt in 2011. He completed his Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph. D.) in veterinary medicine science, (Veterinary Pharmacology – Fish Pharmacology) from Kafrelsheikh University, Egypt in 2014. He is currently engaged as a specialist in fish disease lab at the National institute of Oceanography and fishery, Alexandria, Egypt. He has previously served as the Head of fish diseases department in Veterinary medicine, directorate of Kafrelsheikh. Currently, he is the Retired Codirector of the project, ‘ Update of the Mexican Catalog of Mollusks’, For CONABIO, “Biodiversity Agency of Mexico”.
