Dr. Alexander Randall i5th s Professor of Digital Media Communication at the University of the Virgin Islands. He has been a radio and television personality, delivering the news and editorial comment in all media for decades. He was the entrepreneur who created the Boston Computer Exchange, which was the worlds very first e-commerce business. He created a charity in the late 1980’s to secure donations of computers and send them charity and educational institutions in the former Soviet Union, Africa and Asia. He called it The Freedom Technology. He wrote The Computer Handbook for Microsoft Press, a children’s dream book called Dream Wizard Conquers his Knight Mare and a biography called “Life Lessons.” Dr. Randall teaches Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Computer Mediated Communication, and Digital Entrepreneurship. He took his doctoral degree at Columbia University in “General Systems Research” under the direction of Dr. Margaret Mead working on the origins of novel ideas, the diffusion of innovation, and the psychology of sleep. He holds Master’s degrees in International Education Development, and a second Masters in Educational Technology – both from Columbia. He has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Princeton where he studied the psychology of schizophrenia, the visionary experience, and Dreaming.

I graduated from the College of Law at Seoul National University. I worked at the Bank of Korea, the central bank of Korea until I decided to pursue a Ph.D. degree in the United States in 1980. I obtained a Ph.D. degree in economics from Northern Illinois University in 1984 and pursued a Ph.D. in finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania from 1988 to 1991. I completed all course work requirements and passed Ph.D. comprehensive exams at the Wharton School (ABD, All But Dissertation). I started my teaching career at the University of Minnesota (Morris) in 1984. I received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota in 1992. (I took a leave of absence from the University of Minnesota from 1988 to 1990 to study at the Wharton School.) I then moved to Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in 1993 and have been teaching macroeconomics, monetary economics, international finance, econometrics, and mathematical economics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I held an endowed chair position (InternetCoast Adams Professor of Economics) from 2001 to 2004 at FAU. I served as Director of the graduate program in the Department of Economics from 1997 to 2006. I was selected as the ‘Distinguished Teacher of the Year’ in 2001 and nominated as the ‘Distinguished Teacher of the Year’ in 2002 and 2004 in the College of Business at FAU. I played a key role in establishing the exchange programs between FAU and two Korean universities (Kunsan University and Silla University) and have served as a coordinator for the exchange programs, inviting 30 Korean and Chinese scholars as visiting scholars and many Korean students to FAU over the past 20 years or so.

Benyamin Lichtenstein Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management at UMass Boston. His research specialty is the study of emergence - the creation of new organizations, projects and collaborations- which he explores through the use of complexity science. He has published four books and more than 60 journal articles and chapters, many of which apply complexity thinking to core issues of entrepreneurship and organizing. His work on Generative Emergence is directly applicable to increasing the sustainability of new and growing ventures. He is the Academic Director of the Entrepreneurship Center at U-Mass Boston, and a Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Enterprise there.

Dr. Rupert Rhodd, an associate dean in the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University, completed his undergraduate training at the University of the West Indies (Jamaica), and graduate training in economics at Fordham University in New York. At Florida Atlantic University, he is also an associate professor of economics and teaches applied macroeconomics, and international economics courses. Along with his teaching responsibilities, he has responsibilities for education abroad programs, and oversees the student advising offices in the College of Business. Over the past 20 years Dr. Rhodd has taken students to Latin America and the Caribbean on numerous international study tours. His research focuses on international trade, development economics, econometric modeling, and applied macroeconomics. He research has appeared in numerous peer reviewed journals, and is the co-author of a book titled “Issues in the Development of Contemporary Caribbean Economies” that was published in 2007.

Dr. Richard H Owens has created and led dramatic and positive institutional transformation in two university presidencies and two vice presidencies. He is a successful administrator, teacher, fundraiser, college trustee, historian, tenured professor, author, and civic leader with a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. Dr. Owens is a former U.S. Navy officer, with over thirty years executive, leadership, civic, and higher education experience. He began his career as an officer in the U.S. Navy, having graduated with distinction from the Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. He served on active duty for three years as a Line Officer on USS Preserver (ARS-8). He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lt. (j.g.) in 1971. Dr. Owens’ academic career started as a history instructor and administrative roles in alumni relations and development at the University of Maryland, the Catholic University of America, and the University of New Hampshire. In 1986, he became Vice President for Development at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio. He served as President of West Liberty University from 2001 to 2006. He remains in service to West Liberty and its students as Professor of History. Treasurer of the River bend Community Association, Powell, Ohio, 2006-present, and an elected member of the Delaware County Ohio Democratic Central Committee, 2006-present. He has served as a delegate to state Democratic conventions in both Illinois and Ohio. From 2007-2013, Dr. Owens served on the Board of Trustees at Columbus State College in NY.

Dr. Smatrakalev is Alexander Hamilton Fellow in Southern Illinois University, has grants from European Commission - TEMPUS and A.C.E PHARE at Maastricht University and Fulbright scholar at FAU. He has given lectures in many Universities in Bulgaria, Europe and USA. Has more than 100 publications and participations in different science forums. He was Chairman of the Board and CEO of Fund for Rehabilitation and Social Integration to the Council of Ministers of Republic Bulgaria. Dr. Smatrakalev has a significant experience working with non-profit sector. He was a Chairman of the Board of the Center for Independent Living, Sofia - a Bulgarian non- governmental, non-profit organization of people with disabilities and Member of Control Committee of the Union of the Bulgarian Foundations. He is now instructor at FAU in the School of Accounting teaching tax classes. His research interests are in the field of tax policy, budget policy, policies for people with disabilities and European integration.

Dr. Song YAN is Professor of Psychology at the Jacobs University Bremen, Germany, faculty member in the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences. Dr. Yan graduated with Bachelor of Philosophy and Bachelor of Science in Psychology degrees from Peking University. She gained a master’s degree from the University of Bonn and a doctoral degree in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Göttingen. She has held a number of honorary academic positions in China: adjunct, guest and honorary distinguished professor. Her main research interest has been cultural influences on mental processes and behavior, focusing on basic processes such as memory, attention, mathematical operations, and language processing, as well as subjective well-being, parenting, and education. She was the main contributor to the chapter on cross-cultural cognitive research in the German Encyclopedia of Psychology. As well as “pure” research, she has carried out studies in applied settings, including cross-cultural management, leadership, intercultural communication. She has been a consultant for multinational companies. Dr. Yan currently teaches both in Germany and China. Her lectures and courses have been presented in German, English and Chinese. She has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses and has supervised PhD students. Her taught courses have included an Introduction to Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Methods in Psychology and Neuroscience, Learning and Memory, the Psychology of Happiness, Organizational Behavior across Cultures, Cross-cultural Psychology, Attitude research and Advanced Cognitive Research etc.
