Organized by Talib Samat, this book brings together many essays and writings of homeland literary commentators and critics either from new generation writers or well-established writers on Shaharom Husain’s biography, contributions, and thoughts in drama, novels, poems, short stories, and history. In addition, the book also includes selected works of Shaharom Husain in short stories, poems, papers and travel papers to the countries he visited that were difficult to find in literary books today for the reflection and teaching of all readers. The highlight of this book is that he has gathered almost all the views of literary commentators and critics in a special book on the historical and historical contributions of Shaharom Husain as the pioneer of modern Malaysian drama that continues to be consistent in creative and descriptive writing. His latest Novel history, Di Bawah Hujan Peluru (2000), is a tribute to the growing of his writing.
Shaharom Husain is a great figure in literature and history of Johor’s children. He not only became the pride of Johor people but also to Malaysians all over. Shaharom Husain reviews, researches and writes history, writes articles of literature, novels, short stories, poems and dramas. As a humanist, his contribution to the development of the nation’s civilization cannot be disputed. This book is a priceless documentation, a recognition of the Johor State Government to its children who have spent most of their time collecting, researching diligently to produce works of art in history, letters and others. He is a respected historian, cultural and literary writer. Hence, in many ways, many parties including overseas individuals have met him to refer, study, seek advice in areas where he is wise and wise. The birth of this book is expected not only to increase the number of existing literatures, but also to be the next generation of sources who are interested in knowing the intellectual development of its people, and even more importantly is that we have built a landmark that states that Malay civilization was built through language and literature. Only a great nation who knows and respects the historical heritage, art and culture of its people. This book is a collection and collection of essays and articles of various writers and literary writers on the work and character of Shaharom Husain who are grouped in a special book about the great figures from the state of Johor Darul Takzim who have a great name in the field of literature, culture and history especially in connection with especially in Johor and Malaysia in general. The historical solidarity and contributions of Shaharom Husain in the literature, history and culture of Johor are hardly denied nor ignored just because this figure is quite synonymous with the history of Johor as a reference for various parties inside and outside the country which proves the superiority and greatness of this figure.
The historical contribution of Shaharom Husain in literature especially in the writing of drama has been a study and reference by local students and researchers in various scopes and literary approaches that prove the importance of this figure as the pioneer of modern Malay drama. Most of the essays and studies of literary writers such as Mana Sikana, Zakaria Ariffin, Johan Jaaffar, Krishen Jit, Hashim Ismail, Misni Sidek and so on are included in this book to highlight the contribution of this important figure in his role in the development of an intimate drama in Malaysia once used traditional poetry style, especially pantun and lyric poetry. These writers and literary masters expressed their views and thoughts based on certain methods all aimed at placing the appropriate position on Shaharom Husain’s dramatic drama based on the nostalgia of the history of Malacca and Johor. The contribution of Shaharom Husain in the history of writing the novel is hardly neglected as Shaharom Husain’s struggle to break down and factualize the historical facts of the state of Johor and Malacca should be appreciated because the characters who wrote the historical novels were not many, pose a patriotic spirit, love for nation states and blow up spirit of heroism, nationalism and deep identity to its readers. During the Malaysian society, it is hoped that the patriotism and the struggle to defend the image, image and dignity of the country from the threat of globalization and colonization of Western and foreign powers, the historical novels of Shaharom Husain.
